Abstract

The extravagant anecdotes of the sayings and facts of Diogenes of Sinope are the starting point to set a temporal disjunction: the tension between an ethico-philosophical stance and the society where it springs and acquires reality as praxis. Besides they invite us to rethink the role and definition of philosophical practice itself. It is also pertinent for us to address the problem of the place which Diogenes occupies in the philosophical field. Finally, the author attempts an approximation to the contemporary role of cynicism from the criticism to ideology.
