Abstract

There is a rail road that goes from north to south in Chile. But there also were railroads that went from the east to the west thus connecting even the most rural and remote areas, specially those near the coastline. One of these east to west rail roads was the branch line Pelequén – Las Cabras (the end and beginning of the branch line). During the second half of the 19th century this branch line was the only way this remote community had to travel and transport agricultural products to the capital and anywhere in the country. When the railroad ceased to function the change in mobility was most evident.
