IMPORTANT: Starting from Wednesday, May 22, 2024, all manuscripts accepted for publication in 2025 must also be published in an English version. This translation must be managed and funded by the authors, as the journal will no longer cover these costs.

The Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología accepts manuscripts on an ongoing basis throughout the calendar year. The journal operates under a "continuous publication" model.

Publication policies

PROCESS OF EVALUATION

Every manuscript and their attached files must be submitted through the web platform of the Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología. The documentation is reviewed by the editorial team of the Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología and potentially subjected to a double-blind peer review process, meaning that the names of the authors and reviewers are kept anonymous during the process.

Manuscript Submission

  • The manuscript and attached files are received through the web platform.
  • All documentation must be submitted according to the Publication Guidelines. Authors must declare their contribution in accordance with the CRediT initiative.
  • The reception is confirmed when the acknowledgment letter (PDF file) is sent by the Editorial Team.

Initial Review

  • The Editorial Producer checks that the submission meets the requirements of the Checklist and applies a Turnitin analysis to the content to assess similarity degrees with other texts.
  • The texts, the checklist, and the Turnitin analysis are sent to the Editorial Team to evaluate the potential of the manuscript to undergo external peer review. At this point, the text could be rejected, returned to the authors, or proceed to external review.

Relevance Evaluation

  • The Editor-in-Chief or the Co-Editor decides if the manuscript is relevant according to the journal's editorial line.
  • If affirmative, the manuscript is sent to the corresponding section editor to start the peer review process.

Peer Review Process

  • The peer review process is double-blind, meaning the names of the authors and reviewers are kept anonymous during the process.
  • The manuscript is sent to two expert reviewers in the research topic.
  • If there is a conflict of interest between the authors and certain experts, a note must be attached to the journal editor indicating the names of the people who should not participate in the review process. In such cases, the Editorial Committee will send the manuscript to other reviewers. This information is completely confidential.

Comments and Suggestions

  • The Editorial Team sends the authors the comments and suggestions formulated by the reviewers anonymously.
  • The authors must respond to each of the reviewers' and editors' comments through a letter, the suggested format of which is available in this document.
  • In case of differing opinions from the experts, the Editorial Team decides whether to send the manuscript to a third reviewer, publish it, or reject it.

Revision of Observations

  • If the reviewer's report presents observations, the author has four weeks to correct minor observations and eight weeks for major observations. If the authors do not meet the requested deadlines without proper justification, the manuscript will be withdrawn from the evaluation process.

Final Decision

  • The approval of a manuscript by the reviewers does not imply its immediate publication. The final decision for the publication or rejection of a manuscript rests with the Editorial Team of the journal.
  • Once the final decision regarding the publication or rejection of the manuscript is made, the author will receive a direct and written notification informing them of the decision.

ANNUAL PUBLICATION RESTRICTION

In order to promote diversity among authors and topics, and to ensure the high quality of our publications, the journal has implemented a policy that limits the number of articles an author can publish in a calendar year. Starting from June 7th, 2024, each author may publish a maximum of 1 article per year in the journal.

Exceptions to this policy may be considered by the Editorial Committee in exceptional cases. This policy applies to all authors, regardless of their institutional affiliation or previous experience.

If you have any questions or need more information about this policy, please contact our editorial team at revfono.med@uchile.cl.
